TAD Orthodontics

Temporary Anchorage Devices

Temporary Anchorage Devices, also known as TADs, serve a specific purpose in certain orthodontic cases, shifting the teeth into a straighter position when braces alone can’t suffice, resulting in a much more efficient treatment. The titanium, screw-like device can either complement braces or serve as an alternative to headgear.

How are TADs placed?

First, your teeth will be evaluated by Dr. T. C. Hardy at Taft Hill Orthodontics to determine if TADs are necessary for your orthodontic treatment. Then, your gum tissue and jaw area will be carefully numbed before the TADs are inserted into your jawbone. You should become comfortable and accustomed to the device after a day or two. Finally, Dr. Hardy will remove the TADs once your orthodontic treatment is complete, or when he feels they are no longer necessary for straightening your teeth.

How can I make TADs more comfortable?

If discomfort persists a couple of days after TAD installation, we advise you to seek further recommendations from a member of our experienced orthodontic team or schedule a follow-up appointment with Dr. Hardy.

How do I clean my TADs?

Continue your normal oral hygiene habits of brushing and flossing. We recommend brushing your teeth as frequently as three times a day and using a mouthwash with antimicrobial ingredients at least twice daily.
